Los Angeles Daily News: NHRA funny car driver escapes injury after parachute fails to deploy

In the Funny Car ranks, Jack Beckman, another DSR racer, edged a pair of former champs to take the top spot. Beckman, who at one point of his racing career was an instructor at Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School at the L.A. County Fairgrounds where the Winternationals are being conducted, collected 10 first-place votes to finish ahead of teammate Ron Capps and 2015 titlist Del Worsham.
Beckman, who won the crown in 2012, collected 142 votes while Capps, who has never won a title, had 117 votes, one more than Worsham.
